The Wax MuseumGavi's class has read autobiographies in February and at the end of the month they were a "wax museum," each dressing up as their character and coming to life for visitors to the museum. The whole school visited, one class at a time, so they each had plenty of opportunity to recite their prepared reports. Gavi was Sacajewea (the Indian woman who guided Lewis and Clark and has her face on the $1 coin). She lamented that she had to stand between Houdini and Elvis because people thought they looked more interesting.
Favorite Book Character Day
Juliana's school doesn't celebrate Halloween with a costume parade, but they do dress up in honor of Dr. Suess's birthday. Everyone got to dress up as their favorite book character. Juliana and I spent a lot of time thinking about who she could be. We had so many good ideas, but the bottom line was the Juliana
wanted to be someone pretty. She really wanted to wear Gavi's ballet recital costume from last spring, so we tried to thing of a ballerina character to go with it. And she became ... Angelina Ballerina. Is Angelina Ballerina her favorite book character? No. (That honor probably goes to the fairies or Junie B. Jones.) Have we ever read any of the Angelina Ballerina books? No. Does Angelina Ballerina wear a really nice pink tutu? Yes. SOLD. She had a wonderful day. All smiles, all day.
