Halloween Adventures (only a little late)

We had great weather for trick-or-treating. Because our new neighborhood doesn't have any sidewalks, or street lights, or other Halloween safety features, we drove to our friends' neighborhood, which is much better equipped. Houses in Tennessee are a bit further apart than those in D.C., so we got our exercise and worked of the candy as we were eating it (wishful thinking).

Once again Nana made the girls' costumes. No princess dresses this year. Gavi was Pocahontas and Juliana was a kitty cat (a tribute to our newly adopted Ollie). One friend questioned whether we would let Juliana wear the same costume if she were 14. Hmmm. We don't like to think about those teenage years yet.

Ben had a choice of several costumes, but he liked his "baseball" the best. He refused to wear the baseball cap or carry the ball and glove, but he enthusiastically carried the treat basket (a baseball Easter basket from his Papa, recycled for Halloween).

Craft Mania

The craft project that never ends ... decorative chains! Gavi worked on this one for about an hour yesterday afternoon. Note the well-planned pattern. We've put it away to continue for another day. Once they are long enough we are going to hang them from the rafters as holiday decorations.

Rainy Day

It's a rainy day. What better to do than take a nap with your kitty? Absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wake them both up soon, and go out in the rain to pick the girls up from school. Still, it was nice while it lasted.

The Grand Ol' Opry

Dave & Ruth came to visit us in October and take in some real Southern culture. Naturally we headed to the Ryman Auditorium - home of the Grand Ol' Opry. Ben thought it was lots of fun to run around the theater. He had no appreciation for the history of the place. I think he didn't think of Minnie Pearl even once while he ran up and down the aisles.

Because the blog isn't a blog without a cute photo, here is the first bit of cute for y'all to enjoy.

The Web Presence of the Abelows is Established

After much nagging by friends and family and watching our friends keep their blog up to date from China, I decided that this is something I can do. After all, I'm not working. Surely I need something more than three children, one husband, one cat, and one old dog to fill my time. So, here it is. The Abelow blog is born. For those of you expecting poignant prose or world changing essays, you will almost certainly be disappointed. Here you will likely only find pictures of cute - cute kids, cute pets, and other yet-to-be-determined cuteness.
