Meat and 3

Meat and 3. "Three what?" you ask? I don't blame you. Three sides. (Check out the pictures at the end and see if you can guess what the sides are.)

It's something I hadn't heard of until we moved to Nashville. Honestly, I could do without. But the "Meat and 3" is enough of a local delicacy that there is competition among the local eating establishments for the best Meat and 3.

Our friends, Marey and Tim were in town a few weeks ago and Mike thought they should experience Nashville's best, so he (we) took them to Arnold's for brunch. (Un)Fortunately, I had to pass on brunch
because I'd eaten a late breakfast ... They weren't the only ones that love the Meat and 3. The line was out the door way before lunch time on a day when the weather was lousy enough to keep the faint of stomach eating chips from the office vending machine. See for yourselves ...

Happy Purim!

We all got dressed up for Purim. I've been told that it's the "fun" Jewish holiday. Gavi tells me that there is some fasting involved, but I find that hard to believe since the rabbis (dressed as Kermit and Miss Piggy) were throwing candy into the congregation during the service. Maybe the fasting was over?

The kids were Thing 1 & Thing 2 & Thing 3 from The Cat in the Hat. Yes, I know there wasn't a Thing 3, but we couldn't leave Ben out. They thought their blue hair was very cool. I give 100% credit for the costume idea to Gavi. I was responsible only for buying the blue hairspray.

Wax Museum & Favorite Character Day

The Wax Museum
Gavi's class has read autobiographies in February and at the end of the month they were a "wax museum," each dressing up as their character and coming to life for visitors to the museum. The whole school visited, one class at a time, so they each had plenty of opportunity to recite their prepared reports. Gavi was Sacajewea (the Indian woman who guided Lewis and Clark and has her face on the $1 coin). She lamented that she had to stand between Houdini and Elvis because people thought they looked more interesting.

Favorite Book Character Day
Juliana's school doesn't celebrate Halloween with a costume parade, but they do dress up in honor of Dr. Suess's birthday. Everyone got to dress up as their favorite book character. Juliana and I spent a lot of time thinking about who she could be. We had so many good ideas, but the bottom line was the Juliana wanted to be someone pretty. She really wanted to wear Gavi's ballet recital costume from last spring, so we tried to thing of a ballerina character to go with it. And she became ... Angelina Ballerina. Is Angelina Ballerina her favorite book character? No. (That honor probably goes to the fairies or Junie B. Jones.) Have we ever read any of the Angelina Ballerina books? No. Does Angelina Ballerina wear a really nice pink tutu? Yes. SOLD. She had a wonderful day. All smiles, all day.

Ben's Big Boy Haircut

Because he is now three and because he was beginning to look a little bit shaggy, I took Ben to get a real haircut last week. He was such a good boy! It definitely helped that they had lollypops - one during the cutting, two after the cut.
